News 12 Hudson Valley remains the region's around-the-clock local channel, and the ways to watch it now reach well past the old cable box. The channel is one edition of the News 12 network. Its owner, Altice USA, calls News 12 the first, largest, and most watched regional news service in the country, on the air since 1998. For households tracking weather, commutes, school alerts, and town politics, the channel works less like a station and more like a utility. Nearly every screen in a house can carry it.
This guide covers how to watch, what the channel covers, and how its franchises fit the day. Details come from the network's own pages. Lineups and platforms change, so the official News 12 pages remain the reference for current access. Carriage deals shift from year to year.
What the channel is
News 12 runs as a network of local channels serving the New York tri-state area. The Hudson Valley edition covers the counties north of the city. The service brands itself as a 24-hour local news operation built on block-by-block coverage, and it has aired since 1998. Altice USA owns and runs the whole network. The Hudson Valley room produces its own reports on news, crime, weather, and politics. It also draws on shared network franchises. That mix gives the channel a local newsroom's focus plus a bigger organization's reach during storms and breaking events. Viewers see the difference in wall-to-wall storm hours.
How to watch on cable and on demand
On cable, News 12 reaches subscribers of Optimum, Xfinity, Spectrum, Service Electric, and Fios. Each provider sets its own channel slot. Optimum homes also get News 12 Interactive on channel 612. That companion service carries local news on demand around the clock. The network runs traffic and weather channels across its coverage area as well. Streaming opens the door wider. The live feed and the Hudson Valley section stream on the News 12 website. The mobile app, for Apple and Android, carries live video, clips, and push alerts. A News 12 to Go service rounds out the phone side. A Live link on the site carries the News 12 Hudson Valley feed as well. In short, a cable login unlocks the full channels, while the site and apps open most of the output to anyone with a screen.

Closings, weather, and storm mornings
For many homes, the channel earns its keep on storm days. Districts across the valley send their closing and delay notices to News 12, which runs them on screen and online. District pages list the channel among their official alert outlets, which confirms the role. During major weather events, live coverage expands. The Hudson Valley section of the website gathers forecasts, outage notes, and travel warnings in one place. Pair the channel with a district's own app for the full picture. The app carries the official decision. News 12 carries it everywhere else, from the kitchen TV to the phone in the car. In June heat and February ice alike, the channel stays on.
